All the Way to the Water - Day 11

Day 11: Familiar territory.

Monday morning and I had a simple 350 miles left to go. I had slept in a little this morning after my long day in the fog yesterday and finally saddled up close to 9:00 AM. The sun was out and the road was dry with the temperatures promised to be warm enough that I had no need for the electrics. I was ready to get home and hit the road for a simple ride through Dubuque and into Wisconsin. Once in Dubuque I knew my way home without need of a gps. I had made the trip often enough when my son was attending college in nearby Platteville, that I knew every curve, and hill along the way. There was something comfortable in that familiarity, like walking around in your own home with the lights off, and you knew every inch of the way with no worry about bumping into furniture.  Soon the bridge into Wisconsin and the homecoming sight that says welcome.

The only thing left to do was unpack and start the mountain of laundry I had been carrying around in the motorcycle for the last week. The bike performed almost to perfection with the one exception going through the tunnel near Denver after the day spent pounding the curves in the canyons. Almost 6000 miles over 11 days and I was ready to go further if I could…but life has a way of getting in the way .

  1. I really enjoyed reading your blogs about your trip with your son and the trip cross country to the WATER and back. I like your writing style and thanks for taking the time to blog about your adventures. Someday I hope to take a trip with my sons on motorcycles, they are 24 and 28. Thanks.

    1. I too hope you get a chance to ride with your sons. We are planniing more trips in the future and it has really been nice to share something I love with my son. It has brought us closer and created an understanding between us that is well worth any expense to enjoy.
